Devo Spring Series Stage Race - Russ Hay's/Accent Inns impresses Vancouver Teams

A Group Chasing during RR
Spring has officially begun and the weather finally relented to bring warmer weather and sunshine to BC's battered and bruised cyclists.   The Devo Spring Series Stage race on March 24-25 was heralded as a big success and revealed that the racing season was going to be anything but docile.   For Victoria's Elite Cycling Team, Russ Hay's/Accent Inns, it was a chance to show everyone that they meant business and to be in the thick of the action.   With good representation from Team HR Block and Garneau Evolution, the racing was expected to be aggressive.

Saturday's Stage 1 began with the Murrayville Criterium.  In the A Race, the pace was furious with various attempts to create a breakaway.   In the end, Curtis Dearden (Russ Hay's/Accent Inns) took the breakaway sprint win ahead of pro racer, Sebastian Salas (Optum p/b Kelly Benefits).  A strong lead out by Emile De Rosnay from the pack allowed Cid Martinez to take the 6th place pack print, with Emile still finishing 7th from his huge effort.  In the B Race, Jordan Duncan was not able to hold off Aiden Caves (Devo) and had to settle for a respectable 2nd place.  Henri De Boever finished in the top ten with 9th place.

Sunday's final stage was the 125km Murchison Road Race.  Emile De Rosnay and Raph Lalumiere found themselves in an early breakaway surrounded by 4 Garneau Evolution riders.  Emile rode aggressive and attempted an attack to split the group, but he was marked closely by Erik Mulder (GE).  The chase group was forced to chase since Emile was a GC threat.  Meanwhile Raph was able to capitalize on the GE chase group and sit on and be ready for the sprint finish.  In the end, the chase group caught Emile and, at the finish, Raph was unable to beat Kyle Buckosky (GE) and Neal Kindree (Specialized Factory) but was satisfied with a 3rd place result. Emile was able to cross the line in 6th ahead of a number of GE and HR Block riders.  "Anyway, we did well and our presence was felt . Lots of people commented and I think we earned some serious respect." commented Emile.
